The project

'Radical Acts, Why Craft Matters' was the second exhibition in the series for Harewood House, following the successful launch of the Harewood Biennial in 2019. It set out to show craft in an entirely different light - as an act, not an object.
The exhibition focused on the idea of craft being central to the most pressing issues of the moment - notably sustainability, object reuse and consideration of materials.

Our approach

As with the first Biennial exhibition, this project involved working closely with exhibition designers Jones Neville. Formed of a few simple shapes, the typeface nods to the concept of continual reuse. It was designed to use the existing grid of aluminium sheets, which could then be pre-punched at large scale for on-site display. Signage, interpretation boards and a printed catalogue were developed using a colour coding system to denote works inside the historical house and outside in the extensive grounds. Animations were produced in-house for digital adverts in the city centre and on local buses.
